Steel Signing Ceremony held at King Henry VIII 3-19 School
A special Steel Signing Ceremony at Ysgol 3-19 Brenin Harri’r VIII / King Henry VIII 3-19 School
On the 18th of April 2023 at the site of the new Ysgol 3-19 Brenin Harri’r VIII / King Henry VIII 3-19 School in Abergavenny, a special Steel Signing Ceremony took place to celebrate the construction of the new school for the pupils of Deri View Primary and King Henry VIII Comprehensive School.
The Steel Signing Ceremony was joined by the Minister for Education Jeremy Miles MS, the Chief Officer for Children and Young People Will McLean, Jonathan Watson Headteacher of King Henry VIII 3-19 School, Councillor Laura Wright, Councillor Martyn Grocutt Cabinet Member for Education, Rob Williams Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction and Steve Langford Project Director. Also in attendance were current and former pupils from Deri View Primary and King Henry VIII Comprehensive School, the Morgan Sindall Team, and special guests from Monmouthshire County Council.
Jonathan Watson began by welcoming everyone to the ceremony and spoke of the new schools’ visions and values and welcomed the Minister, Jeremy Miles MS, who spoke about the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme and the project being the first Net Zero Carbon all-through School in Wales. To follow Rob Williams and Steve Langford spoke about the project, its importance for Morgan Sindall and the opportunities in construction. Martyn Grocutt closed the ceremony with his enthusiasm for the project and construction of the new school.
All in attendance were invited to sign the steel which will be part of the building’s construction. This special ceremony celebrates new beginnings for the school and community and a piece of the building will be linked to the Abergavenny community School and education history, Deri View Primary and King Henry VIII Comprehensive School.
