HERE'S THE LATEST FROM THE TEAM
Site Activities
Phase 1 of demolition is complete, with the Year 5&6 building now demolished, as well as the concrete slab foundations that sat below. Our demolition contractor has also levelled off the ground to prepare for groundworks to commence; the new school building will sit within this area. A reduced level dig will take place here soon in preparation for piling and foundations.
The slabs were taken out using the machine’s grab attachment, and then broken down prior to being taken away from site. The walkway that once led from the school playground to the building has been removed.
Whilst demolition took place, our groundworks contractor have been installing the stone for the piling mat. This has facilitated the commencement of drainage for the new school building to be installed below ground.
We have also had bricklayers on site to start the new retaining wall, consisting of block and brickwork to sit on the outside of the main school structure and retain the playing field.
Other news - Top Marks in latest CCS visit!
We recently had a visit from CCS to carry out a report on our site. The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is an initiative in the construction industry aimed at improving the image of construction and ensuring that construction activities are carried out with minimal negative impact on the community, the environment, and the workforce. We achieved a score of 45/45, which is something we are very proud of and even more so for it being our first visit of the project.
Upcoming work
Over the next few weeks, we will be preparing for the piling rig to arrive on site ready for the foundations to commence. This is the first key step in the construction of the new school buildings.
The process will involve drilling down into the ground to a required depth, and then in preparation for the arrival of the steel frame installing concrete and steel cages.
During the summer holidays, we will be working around the existing school side to undertake installation of services, drainage and electrical services ready for lighting and EV chargers to be installed in the new school car park.
We will be planing and resurfacing the school’s existing MUGA pitch ready for the return in September. This will then be white lined ready for any sports activity in the future.
