Here's the latest update from the site team
Site activities
We spring into March with momentum still building here at Houghton Regis Community and Leisure Centre. On the roof, the vapour control layer and insulation is complete, allowing the top roofing sheets to begin. The Blockwork internally is still ongoing, giving a feel of the individual room sizes. The pool surrounds are now back filled, and the steel supports installed on which the floor will be constructed around the pool. The car park is progressing well with 90% of the kerbs and paving now complete as well as the formation of the roads.
Community engagement
We have taken on an apprentice Quantity Surveyor through CoTrain for the duration of the project. CoTrain is a shared apprenticeship scheme which encourages young people to join construction. We also have an aspiring site manager Tommy Fisher, a student of Bedford College. He attends site 2 days a week as part of his T Level course.
In the coming month we will be attending the Bucks Skill Show at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and a careers fair at Henlow Academy to advise and encourage the next generation into a career in construction.
Upcoming work
The main roof is forecast to complete by the end of March. The internal blockwork will continue on the first and ground floor freeing up areas for the Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractor to commence their works. In the coming weeks, constructing the shell of the plant rooms is also a priority to facilitate the M&E installation. With the weather improving it is possible to increase production on external brickwork. Scaffold continues to be erected around the building to provide a safe working platform to build the external walls.
