Site Activities
We go into August midway through the summer holidays, but no holidays here at Houghton Regis Leisure and Community Centre as we continue to push forward. The pools are not quite ready for a dip in this warm weather, but preparation works have started with the tilling and the surrounding walls. With the roofs and blockwork internally now 100% complete the plasterers are progressing well through the building. The warm weather is aiding the curing of the walls enabling the painters to follow closely behind. The external façade continues to progress well with the glazing system and cladding panels being installed. Our groundworks contractor has also returned and is currently delivering the cycle path works across the Kingsland Campus and the works on the public highway.
Community Engagement
Last month saw a new apprentice join our team. Neve Battista an enthusiastic electrical student who has joined us for the summer holiday period. She will work alongside T.Clarke our electrical contractor gaining valuable hands-on experience of what it’s like working as an electrician on a building site. We hope to give Neve the best possible experience to encourage her further in her career aspirations.
Upcoming work
As we close in on the last of the summer months, we should complete most of the building façade. The cycle path and works on the highway will continue with a big push to complete the cross-campus elements before the schools reopen to guarantee safe access for students and staff. The internal trades will all continue to progress throughout the building delivering mechanical and electrical installation, plastering, painting and firestopping of service holes. The main pool hall will go through a big transition period with the scaffold being struck, walls being rendered, glazed screens installed and the pool tiling on going.
