In May, Jim Wilson, Trish McCluskey and Debbie Verity participated in Developing the Young Workforce Dumfries & Galloway’s Bang Goes DG event for the second year running.
The hugely successful STEM interactive show event aims to not only inform young people about what Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) actually are and how they are involved in numerous sectors, but also to showcase the many opportunities that exist around them in Dumfries & Galloway.
The Morgan Sindall team had a fantastic day highlighting the array of STEM opportunities to the young people, and helping some of the 800+ S1-S3 students navigate the digital model of our Maybole Community Campus project using VR headsets.
“WOW! WHAT A DAY! I just wanted to send my personal thanks to you and your teams for coming to this years ‘Bang Goes DG!’ yesterday and making it such a success. BGDG is such an important event in our calendar, especially now as we try to inform and encourage interest from young people following the effects of 2020/21- the young people attending had never been to the show before and that meant that for the majority, you were the first businesses that these young people had met and interacted with. Again, we had many new Teachers attending and whom are never briefed properly by colleagues. They tend to think that BGDG is a traditional ‘careers fair’ and so were blown away by what was happening! The impact you have had on the young people is already clear. In total, we had 45 business participating and 901 young people attending from 14 of the regions 16 schools. Again - a massive thank you for your support, energy and participation. I truly cannot thank you enough for taking part with absolutely fantastic activities and information and I hope you enjoyed the day and meeting the pupils.” - Justin Thomas, Programme Manager DYW D&G
