About the project...
Oxfordshire County Council will be submitting a planning application for the development of Carterton Community Safety Centre located at OX18 1NZ, off Monahan Way in July 2024. We are now engaging in a two week public consultation.
The Centre will be sited on the edge of the Bloor Homes residential development. This project will deliver a new fire station, training facility and emergency services hub, delivering a key requirement of the West Oxfordshire Local Plan 2031.
The new, purpose built Community Safety Centre will be an on-call fire station, offering 24 hour emergency service availability for Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service (OFRS). In total, 14 on-call fire fighters will be ready to respond to emergency calls from the site.
The site will act as a Blue Light hub location for other emergency services.
The building will consist of two parts: the main accommodation and an adjacent two-bay Appliance Bay housing the fire engine.
The new accommodation will provide purpose built modern facilities for the Fire and Rescue Service and other Blue Light partners and includes both training and operational spaces. The building will be designed and constructed to achieve Net Zero Carbon in operation.
The external space will include a two storey smoke house with tower, a training yard with a road traffic collision (RTC) enclosure, parking, and an ambulance parking bay. This site is a key element in Oxford County Council’s infrastructure and emergency service vision.
Site Location
The site is located on land to the east of Monahan Way, Carterton.
To the north site boundary sits the Brize Meadow Lodge Care Home. An undeveloped commercial development site sits to the east with Brize Meadow residential development beyond.
The Carterton Sports Pavilion is along the south site boundary which is surrounded by a car park and playing fields.
The west boundary borders Monahan Way, the B4477. There is both a cycle path and footpath which runs along it with a bus stop and the main site entrance is existing.
