Morgan Sindall Construction wins £24 million AUB scheme

Morgan Sindall Construction has been appointed to a landmark new development for Arts University Bournemouth.

The project, which marks the continuation of a long-standing partnership between Morgan Sindall Construction and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), is part of the redevelopment of the main campus and will see a new 300 bed student accommodation scheme delivered on the site.

Morgan Sindall Construction has delivered a number of key schemes for AUB including the Drawing Studio, Student Services building, Photography building, Halls A & B and student accommodation at Maderia Road.

The project was secured via the Southern Construction Framework, SCF is a collaboration between Devon and Hampshire County Councils that offers public sector organisations throughout London, the South East and the South West support with construction procurement.

The redevelopment of Arts University Bournemouth’s main campus is key to its future aspirations to build and grow their international reputation as a leading arts university and to allow for the continuing modernisation of its campus.

The accommodation will feature eight bed clusters with communal kitchen and dining areas in three and four storey buildings, which will centre around a landscaped courtyard. The scheme is due to complete in summer 2020 and is due to achieve a BREEAM Very Good rating.

Most of the student homes will have en suite facilities and the development will emphasise sustainability, with upgraded pedestrian and cycle routes to connect the site with the nearby bus hub and other areas.

Jon Daines, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our long-standing partnership with AUB, which spans more than nine years, with our appointment to this landmark scheme. The new development will provide students with high quality accommodation, ideally located at the heart of AUB’s main campus.
“Our team is well versed and experienced in delivering outstanding education projects and working safely and effectively on live sites. We look forward to bringing this wide ranging experience to bear on this project and delivering a fantastic scheme which will complement and enhance the existing campus.”
Nick Welch, Chief Operating Officer at Arts University Bournemouth, commented: "This project continues to add to Arts University Bournemouth's state-of-the-art campus and we are delighted to be once again working with Morgan Sindall Construction.
“The AUB campus is where our students experiment, innovate and push boundaries and work with industry-standard technology and spaces to equip them for life in the creative industries. With this project, we hope to provide a home for our students where they can thrive, whilst continuing to provide a creative hub, designed for specialists."

AUB is one of a small number of higher education institutions devoted solely to art, design, media and performance. Its graduate employment rate of 98 per cent is the joint highest among English universities.
Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on site at major schemes across the region. In Southampton, the company is delivering a new £28 million sports centre for Solent University. The new building will provide a state-of-the-art sport and physical activity space for all students and staff at the university.
