Morgan Sindall Construction has officially handed over the new £5.6 million, Stoneham Park Primary Academy to Hampshire County Council.
The new school was completed on time and welcomed its first pupils earlier this month.
Awarded through the Southern Construction Framework (SCF) and sponsored by the University of Winchester Academy Trust, the school will accommodate 315 school places for pupils aged four to 11 within the Hampshire area.
Situated within the heart of the new Stoneham Park development, the two-storey building, designed by the County Council’s award-winning Property Services Team, features 11 new classrooms, group working rooms, a library and main hall. There are also outside playing areas, a bike shelter and scooter park for the pupils to use.
The design prioritises a quality education environment within a sustainable building. A compact and energy-efficient design which reduces operating has been achieved through modern methods of construction, using off-site manufacturing, while solar panels offer a renewable source of energy
The 1.5 form entry school has the capability to expand into a two-form entry school for 420 pupils. These measures include the allowance of appropriate space and the Streif sustainable frame system which allows the future extension to easily join on to the existing school with minimal disruption.
Clifford Kinch, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “We’re delighted to hand over Stoneham Park Primary Academy. It’s been a pleasure working with Hampshire County Council to deliver such an exciting development which will provide vital additional school places for the Hampshire area. The expandable design will accommodate future increases in demand.
We worked closely with all of the stakeholders to provide this high-quality learning environment which we’re confident the staff, pupils and parents will enjoy and thrive in.”
Nicola Wells, Headteacher at Stoneham Park from The University of Winchester Academy Trust said: “We are thrilled with our new school, it is a beautiful environment that we are sure our children will love. We are very grateful to Morgan Sindall Construction and Hampshire County Council for delivering a fabulous school in the most challenging of circumstances.”
Morgan Sindall Construction is also due to commence work at Calthorpe School in Hampshire, which was also awarded through the SCF.
