Pioneering approach to social value and mental health recognised with national awards

News |

Morgan Sindall Construction has received two national awards for projects which have demonstrated pioneering approaches to social value creation and mental health awareness.

The Pagabo Awards 2021 celebrate transformative work delivered by framework partners and Morgan Sindall Construction received the accolades in an online ceremony last week.

Best Project Delivering Mental Health Awareness was awarded to a scheme in St Albans being delivered by the company’s Northern Home Counties team, for a ground-breaking mental health initiative utilising Moodbeams’ wearable mental health device on site.

The Moodbeam ONE wristband provides staff with a button to track whether they’re having a good or bad day, giving the team’s workforce a simple but efficient method of communicating their mood in real time. The innovative approach is being deployed in partnership with St Albans and District City Council on the Civic Centre Opportunities Site (CCOS) mixed-use redevelopment which Morgan Sindall Construction was appointed to in 2019.

The second scheme recognised was St Mark’s School in Southampton, which won Best Project Delivering Social Value. The flagship scheme, being delivered by the Morgan Sindall Construction team in the South, is already resulting in more than 25 per cent (£11 million) of the project fee creating social value for the local community. Morgan Sindall Construction is achieving this total by routing work packages through local suppliers and using biodiesel fuel generators to operate sustainably. Once complete, St Mark’s will be Southampton’s first all-through school, providing 900 pupil places and creating positive impact for the local community.

Morgan Sindall Construction, which is the sole national partner on Pagabo’s Medium Works Framework, was appointed to the £10billion, six-year Major Works Framework in January 2020. The framework, which launched in April 2020, is split into three project value bands across seven UK regions. Morgan Sindall Construction is working with Pagabo to deliver key projects across a variety of sectors.

Rob Hall, Pagabo Framework Director for Morgan Sindall Construction, said: “Safeguarding mental health and maximising social value are two agendas we prioritise across all of our projects. We’re are proud to accept these awards in recognition of this. They’re testament to the great, collaborative work undertaken by all of our people; and our progressive customers who support our philosophy of delivering impact beyond the physical buildings we create. We look forward to continuing our work with Pagabo in both of these key areas.”
Simon Toplass, chief executive of Pagabo, said: “The whole premise of the Pagabo Awards is to celebrate and recognise the projects being procured through our frameworks and carried out by our ecosystem.

Simon continued: “The categories selected reflect our collective shared values to creating a better, healthier and more sustainable future – with the generation of real social impact on local communities at the heart of everything. It is worth saying it was quite hard for us to narrow down to a single project for each category because the quality of work across the board has been so high, but we have selected those schemes that really embody everything that Pagabo stands for.”
