Morgan Sindall Scores a Hattrick of Brent Schools

News |

Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties business has been appointed to deliver three different specialist education needs (SEN) projects for the London Borough of Brent Council, to help meet the growing demand in the area.

Procured through the SCAPE framework, the various different expansion works will take place at Newman Catholic College, Preston Park Primary School, and St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary School, totalling over £6 million in improvements.

Like most areas in the UK, Brent Council has acknowledged the growing demand for SEN facilities in the area and highlighted several schools where the offer can be expanded. Morgan Sindall’s team has a proven history with these developments, as demonstrated by the successful handover of The Windmill School in Barnet.

At Newman Catholic College, two new classrooms will be delivered across a new two storey structure, whilst Preston Park Primary and St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary will benefit from two new classrooms each, across one single floor. Each of the schools will have brand new sensory areas and new soft landscaping, creating vegetable gardens and outside play areas for the benefit of the children.

In line with the SCAPE framework, there will be a particular focus on creating social value in each of the developments for the benefit of the wider community through the construction process. Morgan Sindall is dedicated to creating inspiring places that enhance the communities in which we all live, learn, work, play, care and protect.

As part of Morgan Sindall’s Intelligent Solutions approach, each of the new structures will utilise Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), which in turn will reduce the reliance on traditional concrete and in turn, carbon. In addition, a significant amount of the build will be completed offsite, further reducing the environmental impact but also, reducing the time required for the project.

Emma Curtis, Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties area director, said:

It is great to be working with Brent Council, as we set out to increase the capacity of much needed specialist facilities, that will support the next generation in the borough who require extra support.
At Morgan Sindall, we understand the important role that the learning environment can have, not only practically, but in inspiring children’s learning and giving them the best opportunity at success. We are proud of the projects we have delivered all over the country and look forward to having similar success in Brent.”

Councillor Gwen Grahl, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People & Schools, said:

These new specialist facilities will benefit many children and young people in Brent and ensure their specific education needs are met. By providing a safe and secure learning environment built with these needs in mind, we are fulfilling our promise to give all those that will use these new services the best start in life.
We are also excited to be working with Morgan Sindall again to assist the council in meeting its special educational needs school place requirements.”
