A group of volunteers from Morgan Sindall Construction have given a children’s playground a new lease of life, after transforming a play area at the Springwell SEN School in Southampton as part of the company’s Give and Gain Day.
Springwell in Thornhill is a primary school for children aged four to 11 with complex learning difficulties. Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on site delivering a £5.3 million expansion at the school for Southampton City Council.
The project comprises the construction of a new two-storey block, featuring eight classrooms, new dining and sports halls and a range of teaching and community spaces. The project is expected to complete in time for the start of the 2019 academic year.
As part of their community engagement activity, the Morgan Sindall Construction project team dedicated a morning to transforming the school’s adventure play area, which features a fun playground for kids to run around in and a large ship, with a decking area and a wheel where children can act as real life pirates.
The team gave the ship and decking a fresh lick of paint - bringing a fresh splash of colour to the playground just in time for the Spring. The painting and decorating equipment for the project were donated by local companies C. Brewer and Sons Ltd and KSD Decorating Services Ltd.
Cliff Kinch, Morgan Sindall Construction’s area director for Fareham said: “Our team had a fantastic day at Springwell School freshening up the school’s play area and giving it a fresh coat of paint, just in time for Spring!
“It’s a real privilege to be working with Southampton City Council to deliver this project, which will create more much-needed SEN school places in Southampton. Our team is making great progress on the development and we are looking forward to completing work and delivering a great project for the school later this year.”
Morgan Sindall Construction is currently on site at major schemes across the region. The company is nearing completion at Solent University’s new £28 million sports centre. The building will provide a state-of-the-art sport and physical activity space for all students and staff at the university.
